Some Fall Freehand Fun

This holiday weekend I was lucky enough to spend a day working on a project for an antique shop local to my hometown in Simsbury, CT. Adorably titled In the House and Through the Garden, they are one of the carefully selected stockists for Annie Sloan Chalk Paint. You can read about the requirements for becoming one here. The owner of the shop, Thomas, is very proud of this aspect of his shop, and wanted to advertise it as boldly (and beautifully) as possible.

In the House and Through the Garden is located in part of an old building in "The Courtyard" of downtown Simsbury. His shop was once the slave quarters for the neighboring mansion (now offices), and the surrounding area of the courtyard served as the stables for the horses. Lucky for us, all of the original brick and stonework is still in place, making for an incredibly beautiful and historic setting. The front of Thomas' shop has an adorable covered front porch backed by a very large (and original!!) brick wall. He decided this would be the perfect place to advertise Annie Sloan's paint.

Using the Annie Sloan slogan "Home of the best paint in the world!", we spent time creating beautiful graphics to be painted on that exterior wall with, of course, Annie's "Pure White" chalk paint. On Sunday, while Thomas held an Annie Sloan workshop inside his stores studio, I enjoyed the 70° weather on the porch, hand-lettering this lovely saying. Here are some pictures - I love the final product and Thomas did too!

Thanks for reading, and as always, feedback and comments are welcome!
